Maastricht University exams held at MECC Maastricht for next five years

Maastricht, 11 November 2021 - For the coming five academic years, MECC Maastricht will continue to welcome thousands of Maastricht University students for their exams. Yesterday, Nick Bos, Vice-President of Maastricht University and Rob van de Wiel, Managing Director of MECC Maastricht signed the contract to extend the partnership from 2021/2022 until 2025/2026. The stage of the auditorium at the recently renovated MECC Maastricht conference centre served as the backdrop for this signing ceremony. MECC Maastricht has enjoyed an intensive partnership with Maastricht University since the 2010/2011 academic year, making this the third time the contract has been renewed for another five years.

With 22,000 students and over 4,500 employees, Maastricht University (UM) is the Netherlands’ most international university. In addition to its international focus, the university also nurtures partnerships with regional companies, institutes and various universities and government bodies located in our neighbouring countries, Belgium and Germany. UM has also been ranked amongst the top young universities in the world. It is widely known for its innovative problem-based learning educational model and its multidisciplinary approach.

Nick Bos, Vice President of Maastricht University: ‘The recently renovated MECC Maastricht is a great place for our students to take their exams in a quiet setting. In its new iteration, the conference centre meets our needs. MECC Maastricht is also conveniently located near our faculties in Randwyck, and the city centre is nearby. For students who don’t live near the campus, the proximity of the NS station Randwyck is a major advantage.   Apart from our need for the rooms to facilitate giving exams, MECC Maastricht’s central location has contributed to our decision to continue holding our exams at MECC Maastricht for the next five years.’

Rob van de Wiel, Managing Director of MECC Maastricht: ‘Today is a special day for MECC Maastricht. Maastricht University has been a loyal customer of MECC Maastricht for ten years. Each year, we welcome thousands of students who come take their exams here at MECC Maastricht. It’s a really great feeling to be able to continue to facilitate the activities of a university with this kind of international standing during their exam periods for the next five years. This is a great opportunity for MECC Maastricht to contribute to the development of knowledge in the region.’
