The European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Congress (EVECC) will be held at MECC Maastricht from 31 May through 3 June 2028. This leading annual international congress for veterinarian emergency and critical care will be celebrating its 25th in-person edition in 2028, marking its return to the Netherlands. Over 1,500 international participants are expected to attend the anniversary edition in Maastricht, a distinct growth in attendees compared to previous editions.
The EVECC Congress is the place for professionals working in emergency and critical veterinary care to meet each year. Veterinarians, veterinary nurses, researchers, students and industry partners from all over Europe and beyond come together at the congress to share knowledge, discuss innovations and reinforce international networks.
The congress traditionally travels around Europe and has been hosted in the past in cities such as Ghent, Porto, Gothenburg and Dubrovnik. The 2026 edition of the EVECC Congress will be held in Edinburgh. The fact that the 25th edition will be organised in Maastricht in 2028 confirms the international position of the Netherlands and Maastricht as an appealing conference destination for high-quality medical and scientific meetings.
‘The first edition of the conference was held in Amsterdam in 2002, and we wanted to return to the Netherlands for our 25th anniversary event. Maastricht offers everything we look for in an international congress destination: a central, easily accessible location that boasts a strong congress infrastructure,’ says Adam Mugford, EVECC Congress Executive Director.
‘We have been organising the EVECC Congress for ten years now, travelling around Europe together with the community. The fact that the 25th anniversary edition will be held in Maastricht in 2028 is notable since it’s where PCO (Partners in Congress Organisation) is based. Maastricht is an international university city offering a lot of knowledge and experience, making it a fitting location for the EVECC congress,’ says Joeri Slangen, Project Manager at Partners in Congress Organisation.
Representatives of EVECCS (European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society) and ECVECC (European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care) were present when the contract was recently signed.
