New agreement for the academic years 2026/2027 through 2030/2031

For the coming five academic years, MECC Maastricht will continue to welcome thousands of Maastricht University (UM) students for their exams. Last week, Jan Smits, Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University and Rob van de Wiel, Managing Director of MECC Maastricht, signed the contract to renew the partnership from the academic years 2026/2027 through 2030/2031. This marks the continuation of a long-standing and successful partnership that has now existed for more than fifteen years.

Maastricht University is one of the most international universities in the Netherlands, with over 23,000 students hailing from dozens of countries around the world and thousands of employees. With its innovative educational model, strong international focus and close ties to the Euregion, the university plays an important role in knowledge development and economic growth in South Limburg.

MECC Maastricht has been facilitating the university’s exam periods since the 2010/2011 academic year. Thanks to its spacious, well-equipped halls and its convenient location near the faculties at Campus Randwyck, Maastricht Randwyck railway station and the city centre, for years, MECC Maastricht has provided a trusted and accessible exam venue for students.

Jan Smits, Rector Magnificus at Maastricht University: ‘We are delighted with the continuation of our excellent partnership with MECC Maastricht. An attractive exam venue for our over 23,000 students is of great importance to the university. Not only does the MECC offer a convenient location and excellent facilities, but it has also long been a trusted place for our students to sit their exams in peace and quiet. As a university, we are looking forward to continuing this pleasant and professional partnership.’

Rob van de Wiel, Managing Director of MECC Maastricht: ‘We are proud that Maastricht University has once again expressed its confidence in MECC Maastricht. Our collaboration goes beyond simply organising exams. As a venue for conferences, trade fairs, exhibitions and knowledge-sharing events, we bring together researchers, professionals and students, and contribute to the exchange of knowledge, innovation and talent development. In doing so, we are working together to bolster Maastricht’s international position as a city where knowledge is developed, shared and applied. We look forward to continuing to welcome students to MECC Maastricht for their exams over the next five academic years.’

With this contract renewal, both organisations are underlining their shared ambition to continue offering students a professional, comfortable and easily accessible exam environment in the future.
